Koha Upgrades
Koha 23.05: Show in advanced search when IncludeSeeFromInSearches is used
This enhancement (bug 31338) informs the user when the system preference IncludeSeeFromInSearches is enabled in the Advanced Search. A note is added below the search boxes in both the staff interface and OPAC. This can be useful to know because some searches may include additional results.
The system preference includes the note to re-index the bibliographic data when enabled.
When this system preference is enabled, a note is added below the search boxes in Advanced Search. This is the staff view with the note:
The note is also added to the OPAC's Advanced Search
This example authority record has some See From statements.
See From statements are included in an authority record to provide cross references to a closely related name or concept to the standardized heading. These statements are usually found in the 400 and 500 tags of an authority record and can provide additional results to a search query because the variant terms are also standardized and traced.
The benefit of this system preference is that it can direct users to additional materials, especially when retired terms are used in search queries. One example is redirecting a user from the term cookery to the term cooking.
With the example above, a search for Mexican American cooking should also return results which contain the terms included in the See From statements. If the system preference IncludeSeeFromInSearches is enabled, users will now be informed that additional terms were included in their search.
